Domaine Somm Guide to Holiday Events

It's that time of year when the social calendars start filling up, and hostesses with the mostest begin dusting off the holiday-themed china and decor. With so many parties to go to, we know you want yours to stand out from the crowd. Lucky for you, our team of seasoned event professionals got together to put together some of our favorite ideas.

Planning a holiday party for your clients or office? We've got a special guide just for you.

Nothing says “celebration” quite like Champagne. A fun and interactive idea is a DIY Bubbly Cocktail Bar, where guests craft their own drinks using a range of sparkling wines, bitters and garnishes (get more info on how to set yours up).

As an alternative, consider making a Champagne Punch, or featuring a range of sparkling wines from various global regions.

Give back to the community by supporting a charity at your holiday party. Encourage guests to bring canned goods, winter coats or children's gifts to donate to those in need.

Another way to support your community is to serve locally produced products - like wine, liquor, chocolate or cheese - or to buy locally-made artisan products to give as gifts or favors.

Forego the December crush entirely and instead opt for an event in January or February. You won't have to compete with everyone's calendar - not to mention your own. Use the opportunity to celebrate New Years, or the Chinese New Year with fun favors and decor.

Instead of hosting one big holiday blowout, organize a series of dinner or cocktail parties for small groups of friends. It will be a welcome break for everyone from the ubiquitous large-scale event and will give you more time 1x1 with each of your guests.

Wine and chocolate are a match made in heaven.  Combine luxurious truffles or chocolate bars from Vosges Haut-Chocolat with different wines to see how different flavors play with each other!

Get into the holiday spirit and encourage your guests to really let their hair down. The Ugly Sweater theme is always a fan favorite. Another idea is to have a "holiday flair" competition and see who shows up with the most festive outfit. Or buy fun accessories like Santa hats, reindeer antler headbands and Rudolph noses for guests to wear during the party.

Up the prestige quotient of your party with a tasting of fine and rare wines. Our sommeliers are happy to help you curate the ultimate selection from vintage Champagne to older vintages from Bordeaux.
