NV Borgoluce Prosecco Superiore Valdobbiadene DOCG Brut

The wine is crafted by Elisa Confortin whose father tended the estate's vineyards since 1973. Her and her family live on the estate, love to tend their vegetable garden and cook up feasts for family and friends. This is truly a deep rooted family operation. Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore D.O.C.G. Just below the Alpine areas of Veneto, it provides a climate for grapes that thrive in cool conditions. This soft bottle of bubbly is great with melon and prosciutto. Prosecco, the most well known sparkling wines of Italy are often known for being an inexpensive alterative to Champagne and are usually a bit more fruit forward. Often with this style of wine you get what you pay for, however with Borgoluce Prosseco you get approachability as well as quality.

2012 Shared Notes Sauvignon Blanc "Les Leçon des Maitres"

"The lesson of masters" - This Sauvignon Blanc is a beautiful example of a Bordeaux style Sauvignon Blanc crafted by the talented Bibiana Gonzalez Rave with fruit from the Russian River Valley.  This is shows notes of melon and dried flowers and finished clean and crisp. Shared Notes is a collaboration between husband/wife team of Bibiana Gonazalez Rave and Jeff Pisoni and 2012 is their first vintage. In Bibiana's words "This brought a new aspect to our life as a couple, so we don’t only grow immensely as winemakers but as human beings as well." This powerhouse winemaking couple should be on your radar if they aren't already.

2011 Bridesmaid Napa Valley Red

"Always the bridesmaid, never the bride" is how the saying goes, but this Bridesmaid has no problem taking center stage. Made by Pam Starr and Drew Neiman - whose collective pedigree includes Napa Valley heavy hitters Spottswoode, Crocker & Starr, Gemstone, Kongsgaard & Chateau Boswell. Bridesmaid Napa Valley Red is a Bordeaux-style blend that takes advantage of the creators' access to unique barrels and other "undisclosed sources." We would pair this wine with anything from steak to chocolate. The rich palate offers flavors of black cherry, tobacco and rose petals, a la Jessica Rabbit. In the words of Pam and Drew, "Just like her namesake and inspiration, Bridesmaid Wines are available, alluring, important and very sexy." We think you'll agree.

Looking to step it up a notch? Our Women in Wine Collector pack offers three unique choices sure to please the most discerning of palates.

Bubbles: 2013 Onward Wines Malvasia Pétillant Naturel

Open with Faith Armstrong's Onward "Pétillant Naturel" (translation: naturally fizzy), made from floral Malvasia grapes grown in the Suisun Valley just east of Napa.  This wine will make you think, and is also easy to drink.

White: 2012 Shared Notes Sauvignon Blanc, "Les Pierres Qui Décident"

Colombian-born, French-trained winemaker Bibiana Gonzalez Rave (pictured above) and her husband Jeff make this fantastic Sauvignon Blanc. Made with grapes from Sonoma's Russian River Valley, the style is reminiscent of the best French Sancerre with loads of minerality and citrus. Bibiana's goal is to make wines "that touch your soul" - and this one definitely delivers.

Red: 2007 Merry Edwards Pinot Noir Olivet Lane

Round out the day with Merry Edwards' single-vineyard Pinot Noir from Olivet Lane in the Russian River Valley. Merry has been making wine for four decades and her wines are as delicious as they are sought after.  This 2007 selection is perfect to drink now, or to save for next year (if you can contain your enthusiasm that long).
