Sometimes it’s a challenge finding the right gift for our wino friends - especially when they are tying the knot. As I gear up for my own wedding this July, I can’t help but think of wine related gifts both my fiancé and I would love to receive. So to help you find the right thing for the wine aficionados in your life, I’ve put together my top five wedding gifts for the wine lover. These gifts will give newlyweds the tools they’ll need to be wine geeks together forever… or at least until the wine’s gone.
1. Starter Cellar
A case of wine is a great way to help a newlywed couple kick off married life. We recommend choosing a few wines from the year they met, got engaged or experienced other milestones in their relationship. The rest of the case can be a mix of easy drinking wines for every day enjoyment, like a crisp Spanish white, or a lush Napa Cabernet Sauvignon, aptly named Bridesmaid. And don’t forget the bubbles, it’s a celebration after all!
2. Gift Cards
Some of your friends may be a bit choosy when it comes to wine, and you probably have no idea what their preferences are. A Domaine Somm gift card is a great way to give them their choice of unique wines, a wine club membership or a customized wine tasting experience in Napa Valley. Plus, through our partnership with Giftbar, you can add gift cards for chic home goods, gourmet food products and more from high quality, local businesses in LA, New York, Chicago, Dallas, Boston, Miami and Washington DC.
3. Engraved Decanter & Glassware
Another sweet idea is to have a decanter engraved, perhaps with the couple’s initials and the date of their wedding. Wine Enthusiast and Williams Sonoma both offer a number of different styles and prices. Add a set of engraved wine or cocktail glasses for an extra touch.
4. Custom Wine Selection
Sleep Number understands every couple has their differences. “Potato”, “Potahto”, “Prosseco,” “Cabernet.” These differences can apply to wine as well. With our team of sommeliers a couple can have big bold reds, light whites, bubbles and everything in between. The selection can be customized to suit anyone's palate. This is an especially nice way to give an ongoing gift to a new couple to take them from wedding day to their first anniversary, and beyond.
5. Champagne Saber
For the adventurous wine lover in your life, a champagne saber by Laguiole is a fun and unique choice. Sabering - when you use a knife, or in this case an actual saber, to pop the cork - is the most fun and dramatic way to open a bottle of bubbly (watch a movie of Patrick Cappiello of NYC's Pearl and Ash demonstrating his technique here). You can engrave the couple's names and date on the blade as well. Laguiole also makes a range of high quality corkscrews, likewise engravable.
