Wine for Events: Week 7

2015 Hendry Albariño

WINE: The Hendry has been farming the same vineyard in Napa since 1939. Having beein in one location for that long, the family has a deep understanding and connection the site's terroir and micro climates. The Hendry Ranch is home to 11 different varietals, including unique varietals to Napa such as Malbec, Pinot Gris, and this lovely Albariño. All their wines are made only from their own vineyard.

PLACE: These vines are located on the family's 203 acre property, just west of the town of Napa. Here, the morning fog and afternoon breezes from the San Pablo Bay moderate the climate, creating a transitional climate zone between the cooler Carneros region and the warmer northern reaches of the Napa Valley.  The Albariño grape originally comes from Galicia, in Northwest Spain.

PAIRING: You will find the classic floral notes of peach blosson and herbs on the nose. The palate follows with orange zest, kiwki and a punch of refreshing acidity.  This wine would pair beautifully with a richer white fish or a roasted chicken with lemon.

TAKEAWAY: It's not often you will find Spanish varietals grown in Napa; this is a beautiful expression of California Albariño and at a very reasonable price!
