2013 Massican "Annia" Napa Valley

29.00

WINE: Massican Wines are the perfect example of the innovative winemaking happening in California. The money-maker in California has forever been Cabernet Sauvignon and Massican is bravely stepping outside that box

PLACE: Owner and Winemaker Dan Petroski (Larkmead winemaker by day.) grew up in Brooklyn in an Italian American family. So most of the wines he produces are more esoteric northern Italian white grapes grown in Napa, CA. Napa is known for its major temperature swings so to create these crisp whites is not only a challenge, but a rarity.

PAIRING: The blend is made from the traditional white grapes of Northern Italy’s Tocai, region. Friulano - 44%, Ribolla Gialla - 36%, and Chardonnay - 20%. This wine has subtle richness and touch of florals with white peaches on the palate and a lemon-lime zip to finish. This would pair beautifully with tuna cassoulet or even lemon caper chicken picatta.

TAKEAWAY: Most of us may lean toward a hefty red for winter, but what about those who prefer white? This wine offers a textural component that can satisfy the craving for a bit more substance to keep up warm.
