WINE: The Montille family can be traced back to the middle of the 17th century and the Domaine pre-dates the revolution. It was re-named de Montille after the union of Marie Eléonore Chauvelot de Chevannes and Étienne Joseph Marie Léonce Bizouard de Montille, the grandfather of Hubert Montille in 1863. Once Hubert Montille took over his family’s estate he decided to take a different approach. In the past grapes that were grown in Burgundy were mostly sold to negociants who made wines with little distinction. Hubert wanted to create wines with a sense of terroir. He believed each vineyard site has its own unique story to tell, and he was to help them tell it. Now run by Hubert’s son Etienne, the family continues to uphold his standards by creating elegant wines with moderate alcohol and a pure expression of terroir.

PLACE: Nuits-Saint George is located in Cote de Nuits, the Northern part of Burgundy. Nuits-Saint Geroge is planted mostly to Pinot Noir, this area is known to produce very aromatic and gentle style. The sub-appellation "Aux Thorey" sits in the north part of en route to Vosne-Romanée. Domaine de Montille has 0.73 hectare of vines on soils composed mostly of limestone and marl.

PAIRING: Duck is the classic pairing for the red wines of Burgundy. However this wine would be great with a meaty fish like salmon or mushroom pasta.

TAKEAWAY: Don’t be fooled by the delicacy of this Pinot, the world-renowned wines from Burgundy can age for decades.
